Description
Winter has come to the forest and Timber is finally providing well for himself. But now, humans have come for wolves and coyotes. Swift and Timber must work together to survive.
Chapter Eight: (excerpt)
Winter had fully claimed the land. Deep snow-drifts covered the ground and the trees lay bare, their skeletal limbs little cover for prey or predator. My favorite place, my meadow, was no longer the fertile, green utopia I remembered. Snow buried the flowers and grass and the lake lay sheathed under a heavy layer of ice. Even the birds, which gifted my sanctuary with song were long gone, seeking warmer climes. But this was my home and I thrived in it.
Luke and I temporally went our separate ways. He chose to sit the winter out underground where he had plenty of food to get himself by. For my part, I sought out a land to call my own. I intended to keep the meadow and fan out from there. Fenrir’s pack, while still close, had posed no more threat to me. Even the mountain lion which had nearly ended my journey had moved on, probably up into the mountains that surrounded it.
Deer moved in and out of my territory, as did the occasional buffalo herd. When I could, I took the chance to bring one down. Sometimes, I even called Swift and invited him to help, offering him a portion of the pickings. The first time I offered, he balked at my nerve.
